Disco Step by Step® - Tribute to Club Djs
Disco Step-by-Step® was a local television show in Buffalo, New York which featured disco music, dance instruction, and hustle dancing. The show was created, written, produced and first hosted by Marty Angelo.
Taped during 1975 and 1976, the show was seen on local Public-access television cable TV channels in Buffalo and western New York State from January 1, 1977 to June 30, 1977; the program was shot in black and white.
On September 23, 1977, the show moved to WBEN-TV (channel 4, now WIVB), where the show saw various technical improvements, including color.
The show's host changed with the move, with the duties now passed to Kevin O'Connell, who at the time was also WBEN-TV's weatherman. The program ran in the form of first-run and repeat telecasts on WBEN-TV until January 15, 1980.
Copies of many of the show's video tapes were donated to the U.S. Library of Congress along with the show's internet website making that site the first ever site donated to the L.O.C. The site included various Halls of Fame dedicated to: Disco DJs, Hustle Dancers and a History of Disco.
Disco Step-by-Step (r) was influential in the success of the dance related movies; Saturday Night Fever, Thank God It's Friday, Fame, and Dirty Dancing.
Marty Angelo has been featured on a number of disco documentaries and specials, including Get Down Tonight: The Disco Explosion, for PBS which he was given an associate producer's credit. Marty appeared on VH1's When Disco Ruled the World and was interviewed for the disco video documentary Disco: Spinning the Story.
Because of his TV show’s heavy promotion of the movie "Saturday Night Fever," Paramount Studios execs invited Marty as their special guest at the studio’s dance movies DVD release party held on its back lot in Hollywood.
Marty also provided copies of his tv show's video tapes to CBS Sunday Mornings TV Show’s disco tribute entitled "Disco Daze." Marty also played an important role in the production of Experience Music Project's (EMP) traveling disco exhibit entitled, "Disco: A Decade of Saturday Nights."
